List of relevant national forestry, environmental and development policies and programs and their objectives: One of the guiding principles of the National REDD+ Strategy (NRS) (2018-2022) is that it aligns with overall national development goals and strategies. It identified the following policies and programs as relevant to REDD+: Climate Change Policy (2011); Land Use Policy (2015); Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (2014); Forest Policy (2015); Forestry Sector Strategy (2016-2025); and Nationally Determined Contribution (2016). The revised NRS (2025-2034) guiding principles includes coherence with overall national priorities and discusses the following legal framework as relevant to REDD+: Constitution of Nepal (2015), National Forest Policy (2019), Forests Act (2019), Forest Regulation (2022), National Climate Change Policy (2019), 16th National Plan (2024/25-2028/29), Environment Protection Act (2019), National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (2014-2020).
List of objectives of the National REDD+ Strategy (NRS), showing alignment with key policies & programs: Nepal’s National REDD+ Strategy (NRS) (2018-2022) was approved in line with the country’s needs for managing forests and biodiversity as well as its international commitments. Purpose: to guide the development of policies and programs that address the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation. Updated NRS (2025-2034) mission: strengthen forest ecosystem resilience for emission reductions and increased carbon and non-carbon benefits. Objectives include reducing carbon emissions, improving forest land tenure, increasing livelihood assets, harmonizing policy frameworks, maintaining governance, and improving monitoring systems.
List of objectives of Emission Reduction Programs (ERPs), showing alignment with National REDD+ Strategy and/or key policies and programs: Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) ERP aims to achieve 34.2 MtCO2e in carbon benefits over 10 years, aligned with National REDD+ Strategy (2018), National Low Carbon Development Strategy, and National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. LEAF ER Program is based on the vision, mission, principles, and objectives of the National REDD+ Strategy (2018-2022).
